FREE ‘Gardening for Beginners’ class at Poo-fessional Recycled Organics (PRO Inc.) Compost Farm

Fall 2026 Schedule:

Every other Wednesday classes are through The Chapel and open to those who are part of the Chapel family. See topic schedule below. FREE bible-based teachings. Attendees are encouraged (not required) to bring a dish. Can be store bought or homemade. If you bring a dish that includes one ingredient you grew yourself, you will receive an extra raffle ticket.

Every other Thursday classes will mirror the topics from Wednesdays and are open to anyone who would like to attend.  Cost: Please bring a dish in leu of a registration fee. Can be store bought or homemade. If you bring a dish that includes one ingredient you grew yourself, you will receive an extra raffle ticket.

Time: 5:30pm-6:30pm: Farm/food forest tour and individual help with your garden.

           6:30pm-8:30pm: Instruction- see schedule and topics below.

Things to know: A liability waiver is required. If you have seeds you would like to share, there will be a seed swap table. Please only take about a dozen seeds from each package so there are plenty for everyone. Small clear baggies will be provided. Classes are outdoors so bug repellant is encouraged. Children may attend but must be supervised by their parent (no wandering from the classroom area.)

Topics:  Gardening by the Moon/planting calendar, Seasonal planting for Zone 9b/plant selection, Companion planting/pollination, choosing your garden layout, how to plant and label seeds. BRING egg cartons so that we can start seedlings (if a good moon day.) I will provide all the soil and amendments, and plant labels.

Oct 7th- The Chapel

Oct 8th- For anyone

Topics: Nutrients (synthetic and organic fertilizers), pests and diseases, Allelopathic plants, compost ingredient comparison, Soil blends/amendments, C:N Ratio, importance of having the right pH, and persistent herbicides. BRING egg cartons so that we can start seedlings (if a good moon day.) I will provide all the soil and amendments, and plant labels.

Oct 21st- The chapel

Oct 22nd- For Anyone

Topics: Vermicomposting, and making and correctly charging biochar. We will actually make biochar from bamboo. BRING egg cartons so that we can start seedlings (if a good moon day.) I will provide all the soil and amendments, and plant labels.

 

Nov 4th- The chapel

Nov 5th- For Anyone

Topics: Irrigation and Propagation methods (cuttings, seeds, and division,) Succession planting, plant spacing. BRING egg cartons so that we can start seedlings (if a good moon day.) I will provide all the soil and amendments, and plant labels.

 

Nov 18th- The chapel

Nov 19th- For anyone

Topics: Building a raised bed and containerized options, differences between mulches and when/how to use different kinds.  BRING egg cartons so that we can start seedlings (if a good moon day.) I will provide all the soil and amendments, and plant labels.

Dec 2nd- The chapel

Dec 3rd- For anyone

Topics:  Growing Fruits. perennials, annual and biennials. BRING egg cartons so that we can start seedlings (if a good moon day.) I will provide all the soil and amendments, and plant labels.
